I’m a data professional who is equally comfortable wearing the hats of a DBA, data modeler and ETL developer.

My passion is building solutions with SQL Server at its core that meet your needs, perform efficiently, and become a cornerstone for your business.

Like a knight defending a castle, I’ve devoted over 15 years to protecting mission-critical data, both clinical and corporate in nature.

I’m a SQL Server database administrator, using all releases from SQL Server 2000 through SQL Server 2019. I’ve administered portfolios as large as 120 production instances and a complex as a 10 TB data warehouse.

My DBA philosophy starts with the ABCs (Availability, Backups and Capacity) to ensure your data is sound, secure and always there for your business.

As both an application developer and a DBA, I learned that data modeling isn’t just about table design, but also leveraging the platform your model resides on.

Whether I’m building a transactional system with 3NF, or a data warehouse with Kimball, or shredding XML with XQuery, data modeling combines both art and science.

With the amount of data we work ever growing, you’ll need to move data from A to B in forms you can act upon.

SSIS is my toolbox of choice to extract, transform and load data in a variety of settings. Being able to pair it with advanced T-SQL, as well as scripting in VB, PowerShell or Python makes my toolbox an arsenal.

It’s never a question of if I can move your data. It’s about how I can move your business towards its goals.

My late father would frequently tell me adage carta canta, translated as letter sings. In other words, put proof of what you know in black-and-white.

To that goal, I’ve been certified three times as a SQL Server DBA. I’m also certified as a SQL Server developer with T-SQL, achieving an MCSE title.

To commit more of my knowledge to writing, I’m blogging on my very own site here and I post often on DBA Stack Exchange, ranking myself in the top 7% of the community.

Passing certification exams and giving back to the SQL Server community is definitely worth writing about.
